Black Tech in Zepp

Black Techology is the term that refers to a set of technology and science that is forbidden in Guilty Gear.

In the 21st century, the urgency to preserve the environment became critical, and forced scientists to discover alternate methods of advancement. With the occurrence of the Dawn of Revival banning all electronic technologies and the discovery of magic in 2010, mainstream science began to be taken over by magical science. Eventually, mainstream technology was banned by the UN and the term "Black Tech" was coined. The IPF became in charge in regulating technology and people who are selling, using or owning Black Tech is penalized. It's also illegal to spread knowledge about Black Tech. The only exception to this policy is the nation of Zepp.

The entirety of the technological ban eventually result in the creation of magi-tech to replace conventional technology, which vehicles are now powered by magic or firearms now used magical elements as ammunitions. The best example is the US infantry is shown to carry magic rifles or the US president uses a magic-powered limo for transportation. In the Guilty Gear X Drama CD, a drunk Axl who mentioned E=MC^2 was almost arrested by the police.

Trivia[]

  • Black Technology draws upon several conventions of human thought and perspective:
    • The adjective of "black" is used akin to define evil and malign magic as "black magic" or the dark arts, defining "black technology" as something destructive and negative.
    • In times before the Industrial Revolution and the 20th Century, understanding natural sciences from magic was undefined, as nature was also viewed with mysticism and relation with religion and the spiritual world. In the face of unusual and uncommon natural phenomena or nature by physics, such phenomena was seen as acts of magic and the supernatural, from good to evil, and early scientists such as alchemists and astronomers were also seen as those who studied magical arts as well. One of the most famous whose work earned him ire of the state and the church was that of Galileo, whose theory of heliocentrism exiled him from society due to it challenging the idea of the religious based geocentrism model of the universe.
    • The irony of Black Tech is how despite such technology being the result of scientific thought and study, mankind's appeal to nature and need for self preservation is valued more than powerful but ambivalent knowledge. Even in real life, arguments and controversies of mankind's constructed and urbanized world, over physical and mental health, the environment, and sustainability of the growing human population continue.
